About
Jessica
Jessica
Ryder is a musician, singer and teacher whose work invites passionate
exploration of what it is to be human. Under her original name, ‘Beverly
Morgan,’ Jessica sang leading opera roles at La Scala, the Vienna
State Opera, Seattle Opera and Lincoln Center, etc., working with Leonard
Bernstein and many others, until 1993. Delving deeply into the nature
of sound, voice and expression, she has since gradually evolved new
ways of making and sharing music. She began teaching workshops while
living on Maui in 1994. Later, living in Northern California and practicing
Massage, she began to develop her own style of improvisation and to
write songs. In Berlin from 1998 to 2001, she formed the ‘Jessica
Ryder Band’ and performed regularly at Berlin jazz venues. Now
based again in the US, she has made a CD of vocal improvisations called
‘A Voice in the Night: Meditations in Music.’ Lately she
sings from the piano and seeks out situations that lend themselves to
ease and intimacy. Jessica holds BM and MM degrees from the New England
Conservatory of Music, teaches at the University of Michigan-Dearborn,
and makes her home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Note
from Jessica: This invocation is intense and stimulating. I suggest
you get comfortably vertical, and just breathe the sounds in. Let the
vibrations go wherever they want to go and do whatever they want to
do. If feelings get stirred up, just let them move. I encourage you
to let your own voice respond. Your sounds don't need to sound like
mine. Just trust your body, letting go into whatever feels right to
you, and remembering that the point here is not 'self-expression,' but
to be available as a conduit for healing and creative vibration. Have
fun!
